Stick in Link: Linden on the radio; Canucks trying to have it both ways

It’s time for “Stick in Link”, the feature where we just plug in a bunch of stuff written by others! Featuring a smattering of links from around the Smylosphere and beyond every Wednesday during the summer. Warning: our links are so hyper, they change colour when exposed to heat. (Have something for us to share in the next edition? E-mail us at, tweet us @passittobulis, or just come over and write your link on a pad of paper, I guess.)

• Thomas Drance on the Canucks’ offseason, which has been equal parts rebuilding and maintaining, and what it means for their long and short-term vision. [Canucks Army]

• It really seems like I’m alone in liking the Johnny Canuck V logo. Woe is me. [Nucks Misconduct]

• Mike Gillis’s daughter Kate, who plays field hockey for Canada, on the criticism her father faced in Vancouver: “I think it’s always hard for people to say those things about your father. With the Internet these days, you can just have a free-for-all,” she said this week. “It’s tough to kind of differentiate between the truth and the fiction, but I just keep my head down. He definitely doesn’t let us get affected, but in the long run it’s hard. It’s your dad.” [Canadian Press]

• A lot of people groaned at Jim Benning’s “meat and potatoes” comment. Darren Archibald, on the other hand, is into it. [The Province]

• Kirk McLean is headed to the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame. [Vancouver Sun]

• Jay Feaster talks about John Tortorella’s eventual return to the NHL: “I don’t have any doubt that at some point in time, a team is going to be struggling and a team is going to need some discipline, some structure, and a general manager is going to say, “This is a guy that can provide it.”” [Puck Daddy]

• Glen Gulutzan talks about next season on CityTV, and drops a hint about a meeting you should try to sneak into: August 17th, all the coaches, including the ones for the Utica Comets, will be having a summit to discuss and set out the coaching strategy for next season. Tip for getting in there: wear a moustache. People might think you’re Willie Desjardins.

• Six Canucks that deserve consideration for a spot in the Ring of Honour. [Vancity Buzz]

• A helpful Redditor has made GIFs of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals, which is handy, because I appear to have completely blocked out what happens. Perhaps I’ll examine this GIFs and — Oh. Oh my. What’s… why is he… oh no… noooooooooooooo… [Reddit]

• Examining the Vancouver Canucks’ top prospects. [Last Word on Sports]

So I’m not sure if this is a clever marketing ploy on PITB’s part, but unless one actually has a paid subscription to the Vancouver Sun or the Province for the online version the links don’t work. You knew that, right? Sure you did…

They should still work just fine. But you do hit a paywall if you’ve looked at 10 or more Sun/Province links this month.
