Stick in Link: Tortorella staying the course; trade rumours and prospect updates

It’s time for “Stick in Link”, the feature where we just plug in a bunch of stuff written by others! Featuring a smattering of links from around the Smylosphere and beyond every Tuesday and Thursday. Warning: our links are so hyper, they change colour when exposed to heat. (Have something for us to share in the next edition? E-mail us at, tweet us @passittobulis, or just come over and write your link on a pad of paper, I guess.)

  • Historically speaking, the Canucks’ spot in the standings is a tough one to escape, but they’ve done it before. [The Globe and Mail]
  • Which is better: offence or defence? Before you answer, you should probably know that I’m talking about an impromptu game of 3-on-3 basketball between Canucks forwards and defencemen. []
  • Cam Charron thinks what the Canucks need right now is a little Matt Stajan. I disagree: they need a normal-sized Matt Stajan. [Canucks Army]
  • How about Martin Erat? Are the Canucks interested? Should they be interested? Is anyone ever interested in Martin Erat? Is even Martin Erat bored by Martin Erat? [The Canuck Way]
  • Canucks prospect Brendan Gaunce has been traded! Don’t panic, it’s just an OHL trade, as Gaunce goes from the last place Belleville Bulls to the first place Erie Otters. We may even get to see Gaunce versus Horvat in the OHL playoffs. [Canucks Army]
  • We missed this when it first happened, but the Canucks 2013 7th round pick, Miles Liberati, was also traded, from the London Knights to the North Bay Battalion. This is a good move for Liberati, who wasn’t going to get as much playing time with the Knights, who got Nikita Zadorov back from the Buffalo Sabres. The Battalion, on the other hand, have been shorthanded on the blueline, even dressing a forward at defence. [Bay Today]
  • Defenceman prospect Ben Hutton scored a couple nice goals against Boston College last Saturday. [Canucks Prospects]

  • Rob Williams has 5 ways to fix the Canucks. And yet, not one of them involves bringing back Mats Sundin. [Rob the Hockey Guy]
  • The ever-awesome Behind the Lens photo series takes a look at the Canucks’ practice in Ottawa. Regrettably, no photos of Mats Sundin. []
  • The Canucks social media guru, Derek Jory, shares what it’s like to travel with the team. Apparently it involves a lot of free licorice on the plane. [Fort Nucks]
  • In the wake of TSN losing the broadcasting rights to the NHL, J. Bowman is trying to look on the bright side for Canada’s Sports Leader. [Legion of Blog]
  • Kathy Anderson asks the Canucks the important questions, like “Can you cook?” [Canucks TV]

Re: Liberati – I seemingly recall a diehard London Knights and Canucks fan said something about that in the comments section a few days ago when it happened. ;) Of course, that comment was immediately hijacked by one of the usual suspects that took issue with that original commentator hoping that Bo Horvat would be a special player…

“Historically speaking, the Canucks’ spot in the standings is a tough one to escape, but they’ve done it before.”

Who would have thought we’d be in this position when the season started? I’m pretty pessimistic, but even I didn’t envision us having a stretch of one win in the last 8 games, and scrambling to keep up just to get a playoff spot.

“You’re posting comments too quickly. Slow down” – I last commented yesterday. I really hate this comment system…

Pretty weak in the “trade rumours” department. “Interest” in Erat with the glaring caveat that we don’t have the cap space, and a few blog post wish list suggestions, and that’s all. What about bringing old man Jagr in? Or seeing what the Jets would want for Setoguchi? Or heck, I know they just got him, but the Sabres aren’t any good and Moulson’s a pending free agent.

I just really hope GMMG is ready to talk to Chevy when Winnipeg finally decides it’s time to move on from Kane.

Somehow I get the feeling that part of this article may have been ghostwritten by Mats Sundin.
