Stick in Link: Dan ‘The PP Man’ Hamhuis; Sharks vs Canucks previews

It’s time for “Stick in Link”, the feature where we just plug in a bunch of stuff written by others! Featuring a smattering of links from around the Smylosphere and beyond every Tuesday and Thursday. Warning: our links are so hyper, they change colour when exposed to heat. (Have something for us to share in the next edition? E-mail us at, tweet us @passittobulis, or just come over and write your link on a pad of paper, I guess.)

  • Iain Macintyre dissects John Tortorella’s decision to go with Dan Hamhuis as the lone blueliner on the Canucks’ first unit powerplay. [Vancouver Sun]
  • For all the talk before Tortorella was hired that the players would hate him because he’s so hard on them, people missed how hard he is on himself as well. After the loss to the Coyotes, Tortorella placed the blame for the tying goal solely on himself. [The Province]
  • November’s Canucket List of moments to watch for and check off if you see them during a game includes such gems as “Someone with two first names (ie. Jason Frank, Keith David) wins Safeway Score & Win” and “A Subway “$5 Dollar Footlong” commercial is shown 10 times during a broadcast.” [Legion of Blog]
  • It can be tough keeping track of all the many prospects the Canucks have spread over so many leagues. This helps. [Canucks Army]
  • Sure, the Canucks have had a good start to the season, but Tyler Rowe is still a little concerned about the Canucks’ second line. Wait, second line? I thought everyone was madly in love with the Higgins-Santorelli-Burrows line? [Smug Nation]
  • We missed this earlier, but the Utica Comets have named their captain, with Colin Stuart getting the nod. Pascal Pelletier and Yann Sauve are the alternates. That’s an excellent sign for Sauve, who wasn’t able to stick with the Chicago Wolves last season and spent much of the season in the ECHL. [The Canuck Way]
  • Need gifs of the Canucks carving pumpkins? Yes you do. [Tumblr]
  • What is Ryan Kesler’s guilty TV pleasure? The answer may surprise you. If it doesn’t surprise you, then you might know way too much about Kesler. [NHL]

    No! No!

*Joe Thornton* is the “pp” man.

    Dan, he is good boy.

As an overseas fan who gets little to no exposure to Hockey articles in local media, I am really appreciating these posts. Gives me a wide view of opinions on the Canucks and the league in general.

Let’s hope Kesler exacts some REVENGE on the Sharks tonight…

(And that TV choice on his part is even more embarrassing than my not very subtle pun…)

If that second line sticks together, I suggest a nickname of Higgs BurSan.
