Stick in Link: Shockingly, Tortorella still believes in shot-blocking; Cory Schneider returns

It’s time for “Stick in Link”, the feature where we just plug in a bunch of stuff written by others! Featuring a smattering of links from around the Smylosphere and beyond every Tuesday and Thursday. Warning: our links are so hyper, they change colour when exposed to heat. (Have something for us to share in the next edition? E-mail us at passittobulis@gmail.com, tweet us @passittobulis, or just come over and write your link on a pad of paper, I guess.)

• In the wake of Alex Burrows’ terrible, horrible, no good, very bad injury from blocking a shot, Ryan Lambert tears into the media reaction: “This isn’t some big M. Night Shyamalan reveal. ‘Oh my god he was committed to shot blocking the whole time!’” [Puck Daddy]

• The Canucks’ new “We Are All Canucks” video debuted at their home opener on Saturday to mixed reviews. Meanwhile, via @foxinabox1the Kings revealed their marketing slogan for the 2013-14 season and it sounds a little familiar: “We are all Kings.” [LA Kings]

• Cory Schneider is “not going to get all nostalgic” about his return to Vancouver. [24 Hours Vancouver]

• He also thinks the best way to go up against Luongo would be with their gloves off at centre ice, whilst punching each other. He might have been joking. [Vancouver Sun]

• Luongo, on the other hand, is hoping for a more amiable reunion:

• Meanwhile, Ben Kuzma is still complaining about the Canucks not getting enough back in the Schneider trade. [The Province]

• Jeff Angus and Thomas Drance recap the first week of the Canucks’ season and give their predictions for the next week. Along the way, they touch on where they think Jordan Schroeder will fit in when he returns and why Maxim Lapierre isn’t a Canuck anymore. [Canucks Army]

• Jordan Bowman’s “Post-Game Quotes (I Wish Were Real)” is one of my favourite blog features ever. The Flames post-game is a gem: “Zac Dalpe – ‘I participated in tonight’s game. Trust me, I’d show you the ribbon I got for it, but I’m still waiting for Coach to bring it to- … he was kidding, wasn’t he?‘” [Legion of Blog]

• The always-awesome Clay Imoo recruits the lovely and talented Marie Hui and Arielle Tuliao to sing an ode to Roberto Luongo to the tune of Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds.” It is great. Like, really great. [Canucks Hockey Blog]

• Want to know a whole bunch of things about Zac Dalpe’s hockey career? Of course you do. [Bure's Triple Deke]

• Allen Tung answers the question, “Can the Canucks call up Hunter Shinkaruk and Bo Horvat this season?” The answer may surprise you. Unless you thought “Yeah, under a certain set of very specific and unlikely circumstances,” then it won’t surprise you at all. [The Canuck Way]

• John Tortorella got a lot of praise for splitting the Sedins against the Flames, but Kevin Vanstone uses a little latin, logic, and highlights to show that it wasn’t the Sedin-splitting that got the Canucks back into that game. [NW Sportsbeat]

• Finally, Wyatt Arndt shows us that sometimes, in hockey, you just have to do a sudden, unnecessary backflip. [Vine]

With Cory Schneider back in town
It’s he or Lui’s going down
We’ll all be watching Tuesday night
A Devils’ win will trolls delight

    Bottom line but another game
With win or lose no cause for shame
Though many make too much of it
Talking of focus skill and grit

And yatter of some other trade
That our esteemed GM has made
Like Cody for The Missing Tooth
    Or Samuelsson for David Booth

As for my favorite of the two
    Ever and always Bobby Lu

Might be time to let the “return for Schneider” thing go now, Kuzma. Hypotheticals in hindsight aren’t really all that useful or helpful (oddly, he notes something about hindsight, but then writes an article full of it). Does every Canuck fan wish they would have gotten more for CS? Sure. Could they have if they had dealt him earlier? Maybe? Probably? Possibly? But seriously, what is the point of this article at this point? (answer: pageviews, I suspect).

I am just happy this game is going to be out of the way early in the season, regardless of result.

Yeah. And his 3.75 cap hit. And no Horvat.

forget vermette, they shoulda got brodeur. now that would have set up a great year here in YVR. gallagher would have had a catatonic fit, and kuzma would would have been arguing that they should have held out to acquire 3 picks as well
