Introducing the Unreal Canucks GIF Tournament, a quest to determine which Canucks GIF is the greatest in existence. We’ve narrowed it down to 32 candidates, divided into four divisions then seeded, one through eight. Now we need your help. An important note: this isn’t just something to do while the players and the owners waste time bickering over who should get what’s left of the money they’re burning — it’s also a super-important initiative. After all, if we don’t do this, how else will we know? AND WE MUST KNOW.

There were a lot of upsets in round one, evidence that either this tournament is really unpredictable, or we did a terrible job seeing these gifs. (Probably the second one. We’re terrible.) Even the Luongo Division’s number one seed, which we thought would cruise through the first few rounds, had a bit of a tough time out of the gate. It was nearly upset Alex Edler’s flying tackle on Drew Doughty. However, it staved off the upset because it’s excellent. Look at his commitment to the Beyonce walk: room full of beautiful woman and Luongo’s completely in the zone. Although we’d be a little more impressed if Luongo was doing this.

This gif is downright arrogant, always celebrating victory. You haven’t won yet, gif. But it could win. If there’s a gif that can knock off the top seed, it just might be Luongo’s curtain call in Detroit. It surprised us when it took just under 55% of the vote in the first round, bumping the highly-ranked gif of Luongo turning his net into a Bieksa-cloning machine. I guess we shouldn’t underestimate the power of the troll.
