u mad?
Friday on the blog, we featured a particularly amusing tweet from @Strombone1, suspected (rightly) by many to be the Twitter account of one Roberto Luongo. The tweet, made shortly after the U.S. Presidential election, celebrated four more years of Barack Obama because it also meant four more years of politically charged Facebook rants from a certain goaltender whose initials happened to be TT.
With Tim Thomas’s star having fallen somewhat over the past year, the kneejerk response from many Bostonians — who, in a rare moment of lucidity, got the joke — was little more than a hearty chuckle. But there were still plenty of Bruins fans just touchy enough to flip out over the tweet. Luongo estimates that he was bombarded with hate-tweets in the triple digits.
Now, as someone who has gotten his fair share of hate-tweets (mainly from the good people of Great Britain), I can tell you that there’s really nothing to do but laugh when they come your way. That or, if you run a blog, make a list of your favourites, because blogs are for lists.
Well, Roberto Luongo doesn’t run a blog, but he is a friend of this one, so he was kind enough to put together just such a list for us. What follows is a countdown of @Strombone1‘s 10 favourite Bruins fan hate-tweets, lovingly selected by the man himself. Fair warning that a few are a little NSFW for strong language, as one might expect.

November 10, 2012What’s in the water in New England that makes it more important to manufacture a reason to be morally outraged at the opponent than to win? Are the unwashed masses just taking their cue from their local chest thumping media?

November 10, 2012for even more poops and giggles creep Timmy’s FB page. See the kind of people he and his ilk attract. It makes me oh so glad to be on the other side of the 49th. and the other side of the political spectrum. I’m sitting here proudly wearing my “Two Sedins One Hospital Wing” t-shirt.
shoes
November 11, 2012That is not an entirely fair comment, because more than 1/2 Americans voted for Obama and more than 1/2 Canadians voted for Harper…….so our majority is the “other 1/2 ” of the political spectrum….Tim’s 1/2.
But regardless of that…..Boston media, players and many fans were the most insecure winners of the Cup ….ever…..and it had to do with the guilty concience that you automatically develop when a key figure in the officiating hierarchy has a boy on the team. Not a one of them will admit it, but never before has the winning team ever had to justify winning in perpetuity…..are you reading this Doctor Mark?

November 11, 2012I think you meant “fewer” than half of Canadians voted for Harper. Not “more than”. Fewer. This bozo isn’t as popular as Obama OR Romney. Not even close.

November 10, 2012Not going to lie, #2 was pretty good. Made me a chuckle.

November 11, 2012Totally agree. That was definitely the most clever one in the bunch.

November 10, 2012I laughed sooo hard at #6, but only because I mistakenly read it as, “Back off. His dick is better than you.” Ha!

November 11, 2012man people from Boston are pretty sad hey

November 11, 2012Man people that think fans like this are only from Boston are dumb! Wait a minute, I see a bunch of dumb fans, like yourself, posting in response to this article. I guess we all have some dumb fans!

November 11, 2012I fail to see the difference in maturity exhibited by Lu or the over the top Bruins fans responses. I still get amazed at the fools out here in Vancouver that fail to see the comparison of a few moronic fans ruining it for everyone, or was the riot to far in the past for your simple brains to remember?
The Bruins won the cup, the Bruins beat the Canucks. Get over it, let it go. I’m a Bruins fan, from Vancouver, but I’ve moved on, and let the past be the past. If we get a season this year then it’s back to square one.
For the (hopefully) few Canuck fans that haven’t moved on, please do, as your posts on this page are making the rest of the fans in this great city look dumb!

November 12, 2012So……. you’re saying stop painting people with the same brush, then you do the same at the end of your reply? Lol.
“For the (hopefully) few Canuck fans that haven’t moved on, please do, as your posts on this page are making the rest of the fans in this great city look dumb!”
Oh man, the epitome of stupid right there. Not surprising, you are a Bruins fans after all *wink wink*
mac n cheese
November 12, 2012Somebody needs to control their broad.

November 12, 2012I guess reading for understanding is not one of your strong points. Painting all people with the same brush would infer making a statement that all people are the same. I guess the term few is the one you are most struggling with.
Few means “A small number of”. I understand how this complex word could easily be misunderstood. A sentence clearly communicating that there are only a few fans in Vancouver being tools now becomes all fans, just because of that confusing, and apparently often hard to understand word few.
In case you’ve never noticed, the world relies on stereotypes, thus when a few act like tools, everyone gets lumped in, by society. I guess we should include the literary device of inference alongside your understanding of few to the list of things that confuse you.

November 12, 2012LOL! Bobby Lu’s effin awesome. We’ll miss you buddy!!
