One of the things we love most about the postseason over here at PITB is the awesome fan art it tends to inspire. Last year, for instance, we couldn’t get enough of Peter Diamond’s remarkable drawings of Roberto Luongo as a Dothraki warrior and the Sedins as heinous, headhunting wizards.
It also inspired this remarkable piece from Deviant Artist Nijuuni, who combined her two favourite things: the Canucks and Kingdom Hearts.
According to Nijuuni’s (staggeringly emoticon-heavy) writeup on the piece, she worked on the mural all through June, publishing on June 25th. How did we just see this now? Someone dropped the ball. (Hint: it was us.) You can see the full-size image here, and I recommend it. It’s big enough to be your playoff wallpaper.
In case you aren’t up on your Kingdom Hearts, it’s a popular video game series that combines the worlds of Final Fantasy and Disney. (Sadly, there are no Disney characters in this image, although it’s possible that the green men are Mickey and Minnie.) Thus, each character you see here is from the Final Fantasy universe.
That’s Sephiroth, the silver-haired villain of Final Fantasy 7, holding a Canucks flag in the top right corner. Directly beneath him is Cloud, the protagonist of the same game, winking. Sora, the main character of Kingdom Hearts I and II is the guy with the blue and green facepaint.
The “Share a paopu fruit with me Kesler” sign is a great touch. In the Kingdom Hearts universe, if two people share a paopu fruit, they’re destined to be together. Basically, it’s the Kingdom Hearts equivalent of the infamous leave your wife and marry me sign.
Just out of frame, we assume, a chocobo has been overturned and lit on fire.
s/t to Smug Nation for the find, and also to my younger brother Sam for trying to explain this stuff to me.Tags: Fan Art, final fantasy, kingdom hearts
