Milan Lucic and his girlfriend claim Grouse Mountain for the city of Boston.
We’ve seen some bizarre battle combinations in the ongoing rivalry between the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins. Brad Marchand versus Sami Salo. PITB versus Touch & Wilbur. Shawn Thornton versus 88 guys, Kill Bill-style, followed by a round with end boss Tony Gallagher. But now, it would appear, that we have another unlikely dispute: Cory Schneider’s girlfriend versus Milan Lucic’s girlfriend.
According to Lucic’s girlfriend, Brittany, Schneider’s girlfriend told her off at a recent game just for wearing her Bruins hat. This tell-off even included the taunt of English archers. How do we know? Because Brittany took to her Twitter account to voice her disapproval.
I personally take offense to the directive to “control your broad”. My wife can do whatever she wants. Like, I wouldn’t particularly want her flipping off other women, nor would I want her making man-children everywhere titter by publicly airing petty grievances like this. But if that’s what she wants to do, that’s her prerogative as a free woman I don’t control.
Now I guess I’m supposed to rub my hands together gleefully and shout “girlfight!” or make some sort of hair-pulling joke or whatever, but I really don’t have time for sexist drivel. There are battle lines to draw here, and it’s going to take awhile. This is the most confusing turf war ever, and I once mediated a groundskeepers’ dispute over which variety of Kentucky Bluegrass to install on a soccer pitch.
Schneider and his girlfriend, Jill, are both from Boston. But they rep Vancouver, because Schneider plays for Vancouver. Lucic and his girlfriend, Brittany, are both from Vancouver. But they wear Boston hats, because Lucic plays for Boston. Everyone’s a double agent. It’s like a Mission: Impossible movie, but with less running.
Take, for instance, the implication in Brittany’s first tweet that Schneider’s girlfriend’s alleged classlessness is a symptom of her Boston upbringing. Isn’t Brittany, now repping Boston, supposed to take offense to that?
And frankly, Brittany’s assertion that Jill was the only Canuck fan to take issue with her hat smacks of Vancouver bias. You expect us to believe that only one Vancouver fan was acting rudely? Yeah right. And as a Boston fan, you’re supposed to characterize all Vancouver fans as rioters. Were I from Boston, I would not stand for one of my own attempting to paint the majority of Canuck nation as “VERY kind”.
But there is one thing I know for sure: Trucking is a universal profession. You don’t have to be from Boston or Vancouver to know that it’s not cool to disrespect the heroes of the road by dragging their good name into this. TRUCKERS ARE PEOPLE TOO.
Anyway. I don’t care about this at all, so I’m going to make like ICBC and lazily declare this dispute a 50/50. But I will say this: thank goodness the Canucks employ Cory Schneider and not this Corey Snyder fellow, because he and his lady friend appear to exhibit none of the character and integrity Mike Gillis champions of his roster.

April 2, 2012Wow I find this so hard to believe and I would like to know the alleged game she attended considering Lucic and the Bruins have not even come to Vancouver to play this year at all. So she must be having post partum game flashbacks from last year and why is this being brought up now? Could it be that Brittany is upset that the Bruins are little upset the Canucks are doing just as well this year as they did last year and the cup won’t be in Boston long, anyone could take it this year. And want to talk about classless, isn’t this like bringing up the alleged fact that Vancouver fans wrote on her church, something she brought to light without proof but she just happened to know this information. I find her tactless and immature and I for one am glad we employ this guy Snyder (lol) she’s talking about who has the best one of the best save percentages in the NHL – not bad for a back up goalie from Boston representing Vancouver #Go Canucks!

I saw a girl wearing a Bruin hat walking outside Rogers Arena (by Gate 16) after the game that fits her description. Which leads me to question: what the heck was she doing wearing a Bruins hat on a Canucks game?!

April 2, 2012Sure she’s entitled to wear any hat she wants. I’m entitled to wear a hat with moose antlers and two big cup holders with attached straws on the sides (provided I mortgage my future to buy the beer in the Arena).
But the other women will think it’s a bit odd if I do.
Personally, I always think it’s a bit odd when I see guys in third-party jerseys at Canucks games. I get it, they want to show that they’re real hockey people, but still strikes me as someone who’s not quite on the right page for the evening.

April 2, 2012Exactly. To be perfectly honest, she asked for the attention, negative or otherwise, by wearing a Bruins hat (on a non-Bruins game, I might add). If she couldn’t take the heat, she could have chosen to fly under the radar and go to the game quietly. I’m not saying she doesn’t have the right to wear whatever she wants but she has to expect some sort of reaction for her headgear choice, especially in enemy territory.

This is demonstrated in Chicky’s equal embarrassment at being from the same area (two groups she identifies with — Vancouverite and female). Unless, of course, you were referring to the girlfriend’s sexist comment. There is no excuse for that “control your broad” thing. I’m glad she’s not American, as I’d take anyone who makes comments like that for a Santorum supporter. The fewer people who vote for him and his regressive policies, the better.

Most truckers are good hard working people who do what they have to do to take care of and support their families.

April 2, 2012I’m guessing, and given the lack of grammar, punctuation, and correct spelling, this is definitely a guess, that she wasn’t so much blaming a Boston upbringing for Schneids’ girlfriend’s hypothetical classless-ness, but rather suggesting that Bostonians ought to be angry that one of their own was, again theoretically, bad-mouthing their city.
(All that said, the only reason I can interpret this horrifying “writing” is because I teach first-year composition at a state university in a state with one of the worst education systems in the country. In other words, I have practice.)
