Over the weekend, we shared with you the plight of the Vancouver Wellwoods, our official women’s road hockey team. After a year of wearing the baby blue t-shirts with iron-on decals you see above, the Redwood Cup runners-up felt it was time to graduate to official sweaters. Unfortunately, they had no money. The Wellwoods needed $300, and we asked if anyone would be kind enough to sponsor them.
We are happy to report that the Wellwoods have indeed found a sponsor. In fact, they’ve found two.
The first is BC Diabetes. From The Wellwoods’ blog:
I was a bit wary at first of having our anti-training philosophy sponsored by a fine and upstanding organization such as this, but the idea grew on me the more I thought about it. This logo will be proudly displayed on the same jerseys as our inverted McDonalds ‘M’, which is fairly ironic in itself.
Then there’s the awesome tagline: “Excellence in Diabetes.” I think we can all agree that no matter what we do, excellence is the goal. But at the heart it’s just a great cause – providing no-cost treatment to diabetic patients across BC.
That rules. Many thanks to Dr. Tom Elliott and BC Diabetes for stepping up.
But here’s where things get interesting. The Wellwoods also found a second sponsor — PITB reader Ken Johnson (pictured, right):
Ken Johnson is a nice young man who works for BC Ferries and has two adorable cats. He’s an educated, non-smoking Canucks fan, and he emailed us with a simple request: to help him find a lady friend. And Ken, you’ve come to the right place. We’re going to put an “ASK US ABOUT KEN JOHNSON” patch on the same sleeve as BCDiabetes.ca, you know, to balance out all the serious illness stuff with a bit of classic Wellwoodian weirdness. We won’t rest until we find Ken his perfect match, then crash his wedding. Open bar please, Ken.
Ladies, Ken Johnson isn’t just a cool dude who sponsors a women’s road hockey team, cheers for the correct NHL franchise and reads the Internet’s best hockey blog. He’s single and on the prowl. And speaking of being on the prowl, he has two cats! Women love cats, right?
And finally, the last bit of excellent news: by helping the Wellwoods find a sponsor, PITB has earned a shoulder patch as well. And we don’t even have to pay for it!
As promised, for helping us out in our quest for sponsorship, we are rewarding our left shoulders to the wonderful Bloggers slash Demi-Gods over at Pass It To Bulis. May they live forever and never stop being hilarious.
Aw. Right back atcha, ladies. But we’ll see how funny you think we are when we’re rioting outside your houses if you lose in the Final again this year.
PITB would like to wish the Wellwoods nothing but the best, thank BC Diabetes profusely, and strongly urge all the single ladies to consider Ken Johnson as a suitable partner.Tags: Vancouver Wellwoods
