I Find This Photo Odd: Ryan Kesler, slappin’ de bass

Some of you may remember the photo of Cory Schneider that we turned into three galleries worth of the backup netminder playing every stringed instrument under the sun with the gusto of Andrew Bird. Not simply content to splice guitars into his hands, we shopped in lutes, dulcimers, keytars, and a giant submarine sandwich. It was really stupid.

That said, it’s also the bread and butter of PITB. If we see a photo in which a guy looks like he’s playing an invisible guitar or relaxing on an invisible couch, well, we’re gonna chop the missing item in. It’s with that ethos in mind that we present this Ryan Kesler photo.

This one’s an open and shut case. Of course, since Cory Schneider is already the Canucks’ accomplished shredder, Kesler’s going to have to settle for being his rhythm section. So Here he is, slapping de bass, perhaps as a member of some sort of funk-soul fusion group?

And I’ll be honest. Kesler’s Movember moustache is giving him a curiously ethnic look, at least to my mind, so here he is as a mariachi, playing a classic guitarrón mexicano .

Come to think of it, this fits in really well with a photo of Cory Schneider that never quite made it into a gallery.

Oh man, they’re one guy short of a bona fide trio.

That picture of Gingerbricks rocking out the maracas is amazing. In order to complete the mariachi band, we need another recruit, quick Harrison, find another one! I propose Romer if not Andrew Alberts. ;)

There HAS to be a Raffi Torres photo out there that would make a good vocalist photo… or maybe a Lapierre one since Torres doesnt play here anymore…

I have honestly no clue for a drummer… though that Sami Salo photo with the delicious gloves has a drummer’s bemused face/drool look to it.

And there you have it… a canucks 4 piece band! Now the only question is what style of music do they play? (i vote hair metal)

That photo doesn’t just open up opportunities for musical instruments and the like.
Kesler’s obviously practicing for his backup job as a gondolier in Venice.

Ha, I was just going to comment the same thing. Looks like he’s rowing.

Quick! Someone photoshop him into a shot from that old NFB animated short “Log Driver’s Waltz”. It even features a Johnny Canuck-like lumberjack.

So I admit I put minimal effort into this one, but I hope you all enjoy Sami Salo playing the Sexy Sax:

I tried putting a Kyle Wellwood and a few other ex and current Canucks, but it was getting too crowded. Oh well, here’s a quick ‘n’ effort:

I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade here, but Kesler’s moustache makes him look downright Nickelbackian. Just saying.

Kesler on the bass couldn’t have been more timely.

Today I got an email advising that Deep Purple will be here early in the New Year.

So, is he playing ‘Highway Star’, or ‘Smoke On The Water’?

I couldn’t leave Kyle Wellwood out and eventually edited him into the background.
Nice to see he’s still using wooden sticks, though those ones look longer than his usual twig.

I love the way actual guitar players notice things like that.
