Longtime PITB readers likely know all about the love and affection we have for The Wellwoods, our official women’s road hockey team. Ever since we discovered, about a year ago, that there was a team named after our second favourite lovably weird ex-Canuck– and that they were good, and that they were hilarious – our love and affection for the Baby Blue Welly Crew has been a constant.
But the time for talk of this affection has passed. Instead, the time has come to physically express this love. How? By kicking their asses in a game of road hockey. That’s happening Saturday, July 9th, otherwise known as tomorrow. You should come.
The PITB vs. Wellwoods showdown will be taking place during the Five Hole For Food wrap-up event in downtown Vancouver. This is an event that, by the very nature of its excellence and for-a-good-cause-ness, demands your attendance. If you’ve never heard of Five Hole For Food and you need to be convinced, the above Youtube video is a good place to start. Or you could just gaze into the soulful eyes of founder Richard Loat:
Anyway, once you’re convinced they’re an awesome charity, here’s a little more info on tomorrow’s get-together from the FHFF website:
Vancouver is where the idea of Five Hole for Food was born, and where the trip will finish. After starting the trip on the very East Coast it is all going to culminate in the biggest game of the trip as we play hockey in the home of the Vancouver Canucks and do battle for the last time on the trip. Granville Street was home to some of the most fun and pure ball hockey we have ever played while the 2010 Olympic Games were in town and we’re looking forward to taking back Granville Street!
Where: 800 Block of Granville Street
When: Saturday July 9th, 2011
Time: 12:00 PM to 18:00 PM PST
PITB (well, actually, just me — Daniel’s away for the weekend on a family camping trip) will be downtown for the entirety of the event. Furthermore, Team PITB needs players. Right now, it’s is me and, like, two guys from work.
Come suit up. The way I figure, if you read PITB, you’re eligible to join the squad. I have no expectations of winning, so you don’t even have to be good at hockey.
If you want in, drop a note in the comments or just find me tomorrow around noon and say so. I should be easy to spot. I bear a frustrating resemblance to Tay Zonday and I’ll be wearing a Tanner Glass t-shirt. And if you don’t want to play, come find me tomorrow anyway, either to tell me off or just to say hello.Tags: featured, five hole for food, Vancouver Wellwoods
