If you’ve been living under a rock for the last three days, there’s probably still a pretty good chance that you heard about Alex Burrows “allegedly” biting the finger of Patrice Bergeron. Of course, Mike Murphy couldn’t find conclusive evidence, but everyone knows it happened. Heck, Kevin Bieksa even joked that they’ve been calling Burrows “bitey” in the locker room — although that might just be because Burrows lives in the closet of a monorail cockpit.

Once the incident went unpunished, Patrice Bergeron said he’d simply like to move on, but Maxim Lapierre was not so willing to relegate “bitegate*” to history. Rather, he incorporated the supposed phalangeal mastication into the taunt of the year, placing his finger before Bergeron’s mouth and daring him to bite it.

Needless to say, Bergeron didn’t bite. Pun fully intended.

Additional awesomeness can be found in Lapierre’s mischievous perma-grin, as well as the great lipread of him on the bench, which appears to be: you take a bite, that’s right. This may be the funniest clip of the season.

*So when did we start putting the suffix “-gate” after things to identify them as scandals, anyway? Watergate was a hotel. As far as I know, no one has named their establishment the Bitegate Hotel. And what happens if the scandal is the disputed ownership of a gate? Will Gate-gate fly? This is a slippery slope.

That is singlehandedly pun accidental but intended the funniest thing I have seen in a hockey game for years. I wore out my PVR rewinding or whatever you do to a PVR.

The Bruins will loose this series, probably in a sweep, with their class, dignity, MANHOOD, and respect in tact. The Canucks will win the Stanley Cup without any of those qualities in tact. And they’re supposed to represent “all of Canada”?

If you didn’t enjoy that move by Lappy, then you should really consider a different sport, such as cricket or lawn bowling. First of all the “biting” incident was so overblown and exaggerated. Milbury on Sirius radio, HNIC, said that he clearly saw “Burrows lunge forward with his teeth barred and bite hard enough to draw blood on Bergeron” Really, Mike? Your pants are on fire. Secondly if the roles were reversed with Burrows inserting his fingers in someones mouth…..then Milbury and Maclean would be calling for a suspension for the “act of insertion” The fact is ……Vancouver is not there first choice for a cup winner and the only time Pin-head Maclean and his sidekick clown look comfortable is when Luongo makes a mistake or they can dump all over Burrows. Although there was an awkward moment on the air when Cherry admitted to biting “a few times, in scrums” LOL

so how do I explain the bite by Burrows in Game 1 and then the taunt in Game 2 by La pierierre to my 4 year – old grandson who is neutral on who wins the game ?

he saw the bite and is wondering if that is an OK thing to do in hockey.

apparently , according to the hockey braintrust led by Commisioner Bettman and fans in Vancouver it is now a part of the game…..you want the NHL to be like the NBA with all the punk behavior that goes along with it.

if Vancouver wins the Cup , American-born Ryan Kessler is the reason…..and like the USA it is he who really “stands on guard for thee”

So he understands how suspensions work in hockey, and he understands that Lapierre’s taunt was related to the Burrows incident from the game before (meaning he has a pretty firm understanding of nonverbal communication for a four-year-old), but this incident somehow confuses him on whether or not it’s okay to bite? If, by four years old, your grandson doesn’t already know it’s NOT okay, expect to pick him up from preschool at recess A LOT.

Furthermore, my guess is that he wouldn’t fully understand this issue unless somebody *you* had filled him in. And if that’s the case, then he’ll probably understand when you tell him: Biting = bad.

Like Mike Milbury I am not sure you are being completely truthful about the “seeing” of the bite. Logic says it happened but there was little or nothing to see. Just tell your grandson to not stick his fingers in another mans mouth, unless he becomes a dentist and then he will be just fine. The only thing you should be worried about is that he seems to think along the same lines as Mike Milbury……I would intervene with that part.

Because if you’re instructing your grandson to look to the NHL disciplinary body as the lone voice of authority in determining what is and isn’t proper conduct in the game then he is going to end up one confused individual…whose head will probably explode by the time he’s 6 trying to follow each contradiction.

I’m noting some pretty serious posts here — I mean posts that are way too serious. Of note, those posting serious posts are surely not Canucks fans. Here’s what it is: Everyone wears a big old dog cone collar thing around this time in the post season. This cone inhibits peripheral vision and perpetually points the wearer’s eyes towards the logo of his/her favourite hockey team that didn’t make it to the final. Dogs get pretty pissed off when they have to wear these cone things and start losing (not “loosing” — which incidentally seems to be how most “serios posters” spell losing — that in itself would be an interesting study of the correlation of trolling to low IQ) their brains trying to get the cone off. That’s what this all is. It’s really that simple. These cone head dogs have got no where else to go now that it’s only the Canucks and some other team left to play for the prize.

There is no way the Canucks are any better or any worse than any other team in regards to being classy or not. No way. In fact, as a 40 year loyal fan I would like to believe that the Canucks organization is pretty classy, and we definitely have the two classiest gingers in the league. So all you nay sayers, just piss off to another board.

              no…..it doesn’t !

anyway , it was a great chat. Thanks for hosting.I think we all agree that we want to keep the game as clean as is humanly possible. It may be the last sport to make that effort.

And my grandson , he understands it . None of us are too old or to young to learn.
              Have a great Game 3

I thought this move by Lappy was classless and not funny in the least. But Henrik introducing his linemates as “my brother and the vegetarian” was epic!

Actually, I thought that was hilarious too.

Unfortunately, the Bruins killed the joke by doing it all night. Clearly, they don’t do improv.

if Bergeron put his fingers in anyone of yours mouth you’d have bit him too.

How can you whine about someone biting your finger when you stick in the guys mouth!

apparently if your 4 year old grandson stresses out about all the violence in hockey and was that “bad man biting, grandpa?” you can whine about it.

That was the most overblown “lite-bite” in the planet. Not only can the human teeth not penetrate the leather in hockey gloves but Bergeron should not have, and will probably never again stick his finger in another mans mouth during a hockey game.

Strong final comment, baparick. Your ability to generalize and judge people groups you know nothing about leads me to believe you’re probably also a racist.

Lots of minorities in Vancouver. Think baparick had that in mind when he called it a “classless city”? It’s entirely possible.

A new low by Daniel : playing the race card…..my comments had nothing to do with race.I guess it’s OK for Daniel to assume and namecall..double standard
PS : where were the Canucks ( sorry the term Canuck may be too racist for you) , the Vancouver team in Game 3.
              Answer : hiding

Funny , not much talk about hockey on this site today

Ahhhh…could hardly wait to get back to this dicussion. Let see… when we last talked it was Canucks in 4. Well, well well.
Worst insult of the nite was when Mike Milbury called the Sedin’s “Thelma and Louise” , what an insult to those brave women. They have more heart and soul than both of your gingers put together….
Best coaching strategy of Game 4 : keep both goalies on the bench where they can’t hurt you.
It is rumored that your fans watching at GM Place cheered when Roberto Lu-gone-go was yanked…………..the lack of loyalty doesn’t surprise me at all…..a total meltdown as the real hockey players awoke …..Lesson :don’t mess with a sleeping bear
