If you’ve been living under a rock for the last three days, there’s probably still a pretty good chance that you heard about Alex Burrows “allegedly” biting the finger of Patrice Bergeron. Of course, Mike Murphy couldn’t find conclusive evidence, but everyone knows it happened. Heck, Kevin Bieksa even joked that they’ve been calling Burrows “bitey” in the locker room — although that might just be because Burrows lives in the closet of a monorail cockpit.
Once the incident went unpunished, Patrice Bergeron said he’d simply like to move on, but Maxim Lapierre was not so willing to relegate “bitegate*” to history. Rather, he incorporated the supposed phalangeal mastication into the taunt of the year, placing his finger before Bergeron’s mouth and daring him to bite it.
Needless to say, Bergeron didn’t bite. Pun fully intended.
Additional awesomeness can be found in Lapierre’s mischievous perma-grin, as well as the great lipread of him on the bench, which appears to be: you take a bite, that’s right. This may be the funniest clip of the season.
*So when did we start putting the suffix “-gate” after things to identify them as scandals, anyway? Watergate was a hotel. As far as I know, no one has named their establishment the Bitegate Hotel. And what happens if the scandal is the disputed ownership of a gate? Will Gate-gate fly? This is a slippery slope.Tags: Canucks, featured, i find this video awesome, lapierre
