With all that has happened in the last month and a half, it can be a little difficult to take it all in. Yes, the Canucks are going to the Stanley Cup Final, but what brought us to this point? How did I get here? This is not my beautiful house. This kind of moment comes once in a lifetime, but in the moment it’s hard to come to grips with what is happening. What story are the Canucks telling in these playoffs? What will we remember? What history is being made?
This is why the NHL’s History Will Be Made commercials are a brilliant bit of marketing. Not only are they incredibly easy to make, but they also paint the key moments of the playoffs as larger-than-life and history-defining. The NHL has created dozens of these brief clips that aim to encapsulate an entire game into one or two remarkable moments that they then sum up with pithy phrase. They have made one of these commercials for almost every single Canucks victory. Taken together, they tell the story of the Canucks’ playoffs in the most positive light possible.
So let us review this brief record of recent history as we prepare to cheer on the Canucks in the Stanley Cup Final. Let us remember how we got here. Let us see what history has done for us.

May 26, 2011Wow. (wiping eyes). Whoever thought up this marketing campaign should win a prize. I set the latest one as my ringtone (homer) and get to relive it every time someone phones me. I pay people to phone me so I can hear it over and over again.

May 26, 2011Thanks for tracking those down. Unfortunately, the NHL’s embed code wreaks havoc with how the Vancouver Sun’s WordPress is set up. I’ll add them in as links, though.

May 26, 2011Some of them looks like they got Youtube’d. By random people, not NHLVideo.

May 26, 2011CDC’s needs the latest Flash so I guess I’ll have to wait to get home; it’ll be next year by the time our IT gets around to ‘updating’ my computer.
But this collection is gold. Thanks for tracking these down.

Yes some of us like Chicken Hawk
Came to your town your team to mock.
His team came back from three and o,
And he was there to let you know,
But while his words he did not mince
He’s been awfully quiet since.
His comely wife the Chicken Chick
Was well aware which team to pick.
She said his Hawks weren’t what they were
And that her Nucks would win for sure.
Then others too this way did fly
With bones to pick and fish to fry:
Toulouse Toucan from Anaheim,
Street magician and master mime,
Cheered on the Ducks with common zeal.
For him the Preds had no appeal,
And when they won he slunk away
Muttering of some other day.
Cinnamon Teal was here with him,
Spent all her time at Linden’s Gym.
She was impressed with Bobby Lou,
Burrows, Hansen and Torres too.
She’s pleased the Preds got past the Ducks
And from afar supports the Nucks.
C. Gull stayed here a little while.
He liked the Preds defensive style,
And knew the twins they would shut down
Forgetting Kessler was in town.
Quoting a pretty four line ditty
He flew on back to Music City.
Dear departed Cardinal Sin
Who was so sure his Sharks would win,
With a better power play
And God to help them on their way,
Arrived and left like all the rest.
His faith was shaken he confessed.
All those who’ve gone and those still here
Want you to know we are sincere:
That seeing how you won the West,
We wish your team the very best.
Be it the Bruins or Tampa Bay,
Just “GO NUCKS GO!” is what we say.

May 26, 2011Well- my emotions just got manipulated.
On another note, I’m conflicted about which team needs my support tomorrow. Is there a This Guy or This Guy in the tank?
Harrison Mooney
May 26, 2011Yup. Daniel’s got one scheduled for tomorrow morning.
