If you’re a hockey fan and a foreign film buff, you might like this interview Christian Ehrhoff did with Omni’s German language program, Ahorn TV, just before Christmas. It’s a fun watch, especially since we rarely get to see Ehrhoff’s Germanness on such prominent display. Plus, we learn all sorts of valuable things, such as:
Really, if there’s one disappointing element to this video, it’s that the interviewer isn’t Werner Herzog. As a fan of German cinema, and Herzog in particular, I found myself hoping the guy would eventually launch into a series of questions regarding The Ecstatic Truth. And Herzog definitely would have made the segment on helmets more interesting.
Herzog: Do you feel kids should wear helmets?
Ehrhoff: Yes, helmets are the most important.
Herzog: There’s something not gone right with our civilization. Mankind needs danger. I long for the days when children were ripped apart by wild bears.
Ehrhoff: …….
Also, Jeff Goldblum would be there for some reason.
One last thing: if you watched and enjoyed this video, then you may have a predilection for German film. I highly recommend Run Lola Run, The Lives of Others, Fritz Lang’s M, or anything by the aforementioned Herzog.
Thanks to Blue Soup for the tip.

May 17, 2011That you love Werner Herzog doesn’t surprise, but makes me love this blog even more. Do you know he’s on Twitter?
As a former subtitler, I had to notice that this little gem at 1:49 ‘San Hose’. Awesome error.

May 20, 2011Well, when I – as the producer/presenter – saw this error, I got shocked too. And guess what, I didn’t pay the subtitler. And actually, since San Hose reminded us of the saint Toten Hosen, we decided to leave it, otherwise we would loose our thousands of viewers of this clip… As you know we would’ve had to re-render the whole clip… Also – you didn’t notice it: it Moers and not Mors with the two dots – just on the side…

May 17, 2011Really, currywurst isn’t that difficult. You just get some regular bratwurst from the grocery store, fry it up nice and brown in a pan, squirt ketchup on it, and then dust it with some curry powder. If you want it more authentic, cut up the bratwurst into little 1cm sections before frying and make sure it’s browned on all sides.

May 17, 2011That Malhotra question really floated like a lead balloon…
“Yeah, he played in San Jose last year after I’d already been traded here, so we hadn’t played together before.”
“Oh. … But he’s cool, right?”

May 20, 2011Just catching up on my Bulis so I’m a few days behind here, but that Herzog call was awesome. I’m a fan for sure but that guy does a whole lot of longing.

May 20, 2011I am the interviewer who got so shocked of the cold. And yes, absolutely correct, Germany is even colder in the Winter. BUT Vancouver didn’t have such a cold Winter for years!!! C’mon, tell me I am right!

May 21, 2011Ha. You are indeed. It just made me laugh. Great job on the interview, by the way. We enjoyed it.

May 20, 2011Would be really cool if the readers of this blog could give us a booo or a cheer on Gri.pe. Really appreciated…

May 21, 2011I agree. Everyone do this.
If you ever do any other Canucks stuff, sir, by all means, send it our way. We’d love to showcase it.
