We’re just a few weeks away from our annual road trip to Victoria for the SALISH SEA DERBY! On Saturday May 21, the Victoria Highlanders host the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency (this is our U-21 squad which plays in the USL Professional Development League). It’s a great opportunity for Vancouver supporters to get a taste of the away days experience without breaking the bank or venturing too far from home.
The Whitecaps’ first team (MLS) is not in action this weekend, and Monday May 23rd is a statutory holiday. Sounds like perfect timing!
Please visit the following link for a schedule of ferry services between Tsawwassen and Victoria. We recommend you make reservations if you are planning to take your vehicle on the ferry.
Also note that the last ferry to leave Victoria for Tsawwassen generally departs around 9:00 pm. If you are attending the game, it is unlikely you wil be able to catch the last ferry home. As such we have made some recommendations for your overnight stay (please see below).
If you walk onto the ferry instead of driving, there are many BC Transit buses at the Swartz Bay (Victoria) ferry terminal which take you southbound into downtown Victoria. It appears the #70, #72 and #73 buses are your best bets, as they bring you within a few blocks of our pre-match pub gathering on Government Street (see below). Travel time from the ferry terminal to downtown Victoria is about 45 – 60 minutes. On Saturdays, #70 departs on the hour, #72 departs five minutes after the hour, and #73 departs at 35 minutes after the hour.
On the afternoon before the match, we’ll be meeting up at the Bard Banker Pub, located at 1022 Government Street. It’s our understanding that the pub operates a shuttle service to and from the match for just $5 (includes return trip). You can also obtain a ticket as part of a beer burger combo for $20. The shuttle leaves the pub at 6:00 pm, and arrives at the stadium by 6:30 pm.
Saturday May 21. Kickoff is 7:00 pm.
Bear Mountain Stadium – City Centre Park Sportsplex
1089 Langford Parkway, Langford (Victoria) BC
Purchase your ticket at the gate for $12 – $15.
The Bard Banker shuttle will take you back to the pub after the game. We’ll perhaps stay there a while and venture elsewhere in downtown Victoria later.
