It was obvious to anyone waling around the city of Vancouver yesterday that the Vancouver Canucks were a hot topic. In coffee shops, in elevators, bars and newsrooms, the Canucks’ tense, make of break game 7 match-up against the Blackhawks was that sort of story everyone wanted to wax about.
During the game, though, it was clear that Twitter became the place to take the conversation. The social media micro-blog heated up during last night’s game.
Below, these maps show where the #Canucks hashtag was trending during last night’s game.
In the Lower Mainland:
Downtown Vancouver was, to little surprise, the most popular spot in the world for the #Canucks hashtag last night> However, other hotspots included North Vancouver, Delta, New Westminster, Burnaby and Port Moody.
In North America:
Vancouver and Toronto were dominating urban centres that used #Canucks, but various spots across the Praries and US west coast also got in on the action. Unsurprisingly, there was a lot of Twittering in Chicago, and while some used #Canucks, the majority opted for the #Blackhawks tag.
Internationally:
In the UK, and Netherlands, Canucks fans joined the chat. And, who knew, more than a few South Africans got in the action as well.
