Fighters seem to be learning that Twitter is for more than telling 900 followers, “Had a great workout today,” and in fact can be a useful pre-fight hype tool.
Others are seemingly using the platform to try to talk themselves into fights they have no business getting into.
Witness Aaron Simpson:
I don’t think jon jones has any idea what he is getting into with [Ryan] Bader. I hope he is up for it.
Your standard pre-fight ‘my training partner is going to kick your ass’ talk, sure, but also weak sauce coming from a guy not involved in the fight… unless Simpson thinks picking a fight with Jones will earn him a Brian Stann/Chris Leben-style step up in class.
Jones wasn’t having any of that kind of baiting, however, responding with this now deleted tweet:
“Didn’t you lose your last 2 fights? Please don’t piss me off, I actually have respect for Ryan. Don’t you have a fight scheduled?”
Jones followed that up with the Touch of Death, referring to the chances that Simpson will be cut by the UFC for a third straight loss:
“Focus on yourself instead of weather I’m ready or not? Are you familiar with the strike policy in baseball?”
Hot diggity. Jones knows how to shove a geek in the locker, huh?
